Chief Purpose of this position: The College of Humanities and Sciences invites applications to serve as Associate Dean for Inclusive Communities. This position requires 50% effort allocation. This position provides an opportunity to lead the College in developing and executing plans for the future of the College, with particular attention to efforts in engaged and inclusive pedagogy, relevant scholarship and research, and community engagement. The position reports to the dean.

Position Responsibilities: The Associate Dean for Inclusive Communities will have significant responsibility for initiatives related to inclusive practices for the College: develop programming to support these efforts; interact with IDEC (Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Committee) and department-level committees; initiate appropriate and lead special projects in the College. The position requires working closely with other associate deans, the dean, and as well as the Division of Inclusive Excellence. Additionally, the CHS Dean's office meets weekly and, in turn, monthly with the chair/directors of the academic units.

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a tenured faculty appointment in the College of Humanities and Sciences. Successful candidates will have experience organizing and leading groups, planning and executing projects, working toward greater inclusion, and strong interpersonal skills. Successful candidates will demonstrate the potential to work collaboratively and collegially in a variety of contexts. They will also have teaching and/or research experience that align with the goals of this position–to foster inclusive communities within the College of Humanities and Sciences and our broader RVA community–and with a key goal of Quest 2028, Diversity Driving Excellence.
