Job Summary

Youth Education's Classroom Assistant works as the Education Assistant across our Campus Camps and Pre-College programs.

Our Campus Camps and Pre-College at the U summer programs are built to inspire education, innovation, and imagination. We develop interests and passions through experiential education and extend the resources of the University of Utah to students 17 and under. Our summer programs run for 10 weeks in the summer, Monday-Friday.

This is an in-person position. Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The selected candidates must be able to start work the week of June 3rd, 2024. Please email youth@utah.edu with questions.

As an Education Assistant you will:
  • Learn and implement various classroom management techniques
  • Identify different teaching styles
  • Observe how learning abilities differ by age
  • Gain experience in Inquiry-based Education
Responsibilities
  • Assist with classroom management including the direction, supervision, and organization of campers
  • Assist with facilitating activities, helping with field trips, managing supplies, etc.
  • Work with Youth Education instructors and staff to ensure program quality
  • Deliver extraordinary customer service to all program participants
  • Recognize and respond to teachable moments in the group
  • Encourage campers to participate in activities by demonstrating excitement and enthusiasm appropriately
  • Other duties may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Preferences
  • At least 18 years old
  • Prior experience working with children in a camp or classroom environment
  • Prior experience in STEAM-based subjects
  • Self-directed, punctual, and highly organized
  • Available consistently throughout the weeks of summer
