The Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking candidates for a full-time Demonstration Associate. This position is located on The Hill in the Nielsen Physics Building.
Qualifications :
The position’s primary responsibility is to create and perform scientific demonstrations for undergraduate physics classes & labs, and aid faculty & graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) by setting up experiments for labs. The position will also assist in training GTAs in managing demonstrations and online coursework, oversee the general upkeep of the demonstration labs and equipment (including maintenance) along with assisting in recruiting for our undergraduate program by conducting on-site experiments for potential students.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of undergraduate physics courses and laboratory material as well as experience with the equipment used in physics experiments, including but not limited to oscilloscopes, power supplies, and sensors. The candidate must be able to work independently to assess laboratory equipment and communicate with a diverse body of faculty and students in person and via email to organize and schedule demonstrations.
Educational & experience requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics required with a Master’s degree in Physics preferred.
- 1-2 years of demonstrated experience using common laboratory equipment with prior laboratory instruction experience (as a GTA or instructor) preferred.
