Position: Associate Professor in the tenure-stream
Appointment: Eight-month, full-time (in the tenure stream) appointment; starting Fall 2023
Description : The Department of Health and Human Development (HHD) in the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh is searching for an exercise scientist with research expertise in the fields of human movement, biomechanics, and injury prevention as these intersect with education. Our interdisciplinary department brings together a diverse group of researchers, scholars, and practitioners who collectively focus on supporting the behavioral, emotional, physical, and social adjustment of individuals in their daily lives across the life course (i.e., from infancy through elderly life and across generations). We seek a colleague who is conducting cutting-edge research with both healthy and special populations that centers on improving health and human performance and preventing musculoskeletal injury in work, home, and community settings. We are particularly interested in recruiting a colleague with an ongoing program of externally (i.e., federal agency, industry) funded research in these domains of inquiry. In addition to having an active program of research, we are seeking a colleague to teach undergraduate, master's, and doctoral-level courses and to support and mentor doctoral students in the Ph.D. and/or EdD programs, with an emphasis on exercise physiology. Our undergraduate and master's programs are accredited by the American College of Sports Medicine, and we expect this person to contribute to these programs.
This position, contributing to teaching, research, and engagement needs, speaks to a School-wide mission/vision "to ignite learning, pursue and produce knowledge, and advance educational excellence." The successful candidate will have a commitment to equity and justice, and demonstrate partnerships with clinical settings, communities, or other organizations which translate and advance research-practice partnerships in the Hill District and surrounding area. This candidate will be expected to teach and advise students; supervise master's projects and doctoral dissertations; participate in program/course development; and provide service to the Department, School, and University.
The University of Pittsburgh is a large public research university with approximately 19,000 undergraduate students and 9,000 graduate students. We offer multiple degrees including a Bachelor of Science (B.S.), a Masters of Science (M.S.), an Education Doctorate (Ed.D.), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).
