Job Description

TheUMKC School of Dentistryis seeking a qualified indivuial to play vital role in the operation of the UMKC Dental Clinic. The person selected will report to the Supervisor of the Dental Maintenance Team and perform work related to the installation, calibration, inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of equipment used in the practice of dentistry, including but not limited to, dental chairs, intra-oral x-ray machines, hand piece systems, air compressors, alcohol torches, and sedation equipment. This job is highly visible and interacts with all clinical faculty, staff, and students.

Individuals with transferable skill-sets (e.g., Electrical Technicians, Small Appliance Technicians, etc.) are encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities Include:
  • Maintain all dental, laboratory, research, radiology, central sterilization, and departmental equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair of Dental School equipment. Select appropriate replacement parts and sources to ensure quality repairs and cost control.
  • Conduct performance assurance and preventative maintenance testing of patient care support systems in clinic and building and maintain records for each.
  • Install and relocate radiology, research, clinic, and specialty equipment of varying size and weight.
  • Communicate with appropriate Dental Faculty, Staff, and Students regarding status of equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or an equivalent of education and at least 1 year experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
  • Certifications as required by regulatory agencies is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and/or training on modern ADEC Dental Equipment and Boyd Dental Equipment is preferred.
  • At least three years' experience on modern dental equipment repair preferred.An associate's degree in Engineering related field or two years of experience in modern dental equipment repair or technical experience with pneumatics, electronics, or electricity is necessary.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to lift up to 100lbs is necessary.
  • Excellent customer service skills are necessary.
Anticipated Hiring Range
  • $20.09 to $23.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity
  • This position is eligible for pay increases based on additional certifications obtained while in the position. Certification costs will be covered by the UMKC School of Dentistry.
  • 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE), fully benefit-eligible, staff position.
