The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is a nonprofit organization and is one of the only National Olympic/Paralympic Committees in the world that does not receive government funding for its Olympic and Paralympic programs, instead relying on the generosity of a committed community of sponsors and donors. Increasing philanthropic support for U.S. athletes is one of the USOPC's highest strategic priorities and hence, the organization has established the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation (USOPF) as the fundraising organization for the USOPC and is investing significant resources in its Development division.
Reporting to the Vice President, Institutional Advancement, the Director, Institutional Giving is responsible for strategizing, developing, and executing a robust giving program focused on foundations and institutional grants. The Director will partner across the Institutional Advancement team to create the legacy programming for the Movement and incorporate the USOPC's institutional giving efforts into the comprehensive campaign to raise philanthropic support for Team USA and the domestic Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. The Director will also serve as the primary fundraiser for the institutional giving program and will work closely with the Vice President to achieve the program's goals.
Here's how you'll have an impact:
- In consultation with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Vice President, Institutional Advancement (VPIA), strategize, build, and implement a multi-faceted and comprehensive foundations and grant program to align with the USOPC's fundraising goals and priorities and support the campaign towards the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
- Oversee all grant application efforts, including successful proposal development and submission. Proactively identify, cultivate, solicit, and build relationships with foundation prospects in support of the mission and strategic plan of the USOPC and USOPF. Serve as the primary point of contact for all foundation and grant solicitation materials on behalf of the USOPF/USOPC, including the creating and writing letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and reports and metrics.
- Establish solicitation priorities and develop targeted cultivation and solicitation strategies for foundations and grant funders. Build a team to implement strategies as needed. Prepare and provide support to staff, board members, and volunteers for solicitations.
- Lead the development of an intentional foundations and grants program in coordination with our National Governing Bodies (NGBs) to support key funding opportunities. Identify and streamline institutional giving processes, including the development of training materials, grant applications, reporting mechanisms, etc.
- Oversee prospect development activities and initiatives for foundation and grant programs. Maintain an intense focus and high-level of personal activity including writing letters of inquiry, submission of grant proposals, and necessary follow-up.
- Successfully manage a portfolio of foundations and institutional prospects to meet defined philanthropic goals for the program. Engage in stewardship and relationship-building activities that aim to maximize potential gifts over the long-term.
- In collaboration with the VPIA, partner with USOPC business leaders to identify and prioritize opportunities which are ideal for grant funding. Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the organization, mission, programs, activities, and resources, as well as key funding needs, and articulate to foundation funding sources persuasively.
- Ensure that data related to foundations and grants is recorded and tracked in electronic and hard copy files as necessary. Manage foundation and grant recordkeeping, including maintaining the donor database with up-to-date and viable gift strategies and accurate information that facilitates effective fundraising, internal communications, and prospect management. Collaborate with Analytics & Growth team as needed to facilitate effective data and information gathering processes.
- Oversee the stewardship process for institutional giving programs, including acknowledgements, recognition, and reporting in collaboration with the Donor Experience & Stewardship team and the Director, USOPF Finance & Accounting.
- Determine and implement metrics to evaluate progress towards goals. Prepare periodic reports for USOPF Board, USOPC leadership, and Development senior staff. Recommend revisions to the fundraising plan as needed to meet and exceed goals.
- In collaboration with CDO, VPIA, USOPC Finance & Accounting team, and USOPC Legal team, develop and implement institutional giving policies and procedures as needed.
- Partner with USOPF colleagues regarding grant-related gift agreements, gift processing, installment reminders, acknowledgements, and other related fundraising administration.
- Oversee budget development and monitoring for any activities related to institutional giving programs. Produce internal and external reports regarding projected and achieved goals, in collaboration with USOPF Finance & Accounting team.
- Maintain the grant solicitation calendar, ensuring alignment with existing program and Development event calendars.
- Prepare presentations for the USOPF and USOPC leadership teams and Board of Directors to share progress toward goals.
Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of professional experience in fundraising with a track record of success, including specific experience working with sophisticated foundations and grant-writing expertise
- Proven success leading and directing an institutional giving program
- Demonstrated experience in producing strong proposals for funding from major U.S. Foundations and Grant Funders

This is a home-based role that may work from anywhere within the U.S., or a defined location based on business need. Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York City Areas are preferred.
Pay and Bonus Information
- Hiring Pay Range:
- National: $95,039 to $120,700 per year
- Chicago: $104,780 to $133,071 per year
- Los Angeles: $110,020 to $139,725 per year
- New York City: $121,296 to $154,046 per year
- This is a full-time, exempt position intended to work 40 hours per week.
- Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program at a 20% target. This program is subject to change or elimination by the USOPC at any time at its sole discretion
