Job Summary

Reporting to the District Director of Facilities Engineering, the Manager of District Facilities and Workplace Safety is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, and evaluating practices to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices. This position is also responsible for managing safety programs for all district facilities, performing surveys to determine program effectiveness, and maintaining a safe workplace throughout the district.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Manages and oversees District Laboratory Ventilation Program
  • Manages inspections and maintenance of facility safety equipment such as AED's, fire extinguishers, eye-wash stations, and Evacutrac equipment
  • Oversees Radiation Safety Program on all campuses
  • Responds to complaints and oversees indoor air quality testing at all district facilities
  • Manages worksite analyses to evaluate air, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and physical hazards in the workplace as part of the District Chemical Hygiene Program
  • Performs periodic food safety inspections at district food preparation facilities
  • Investigates potential safety issues and violations; responds to Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) complaints, performs or coordinates testing and sampling as needed, interprets results, and recommends corrective action when appropriate
  • Prepares and delivers timely safety training to staff as necessary
  • Performs periodic campus safety inspections to identify potential hazards to occupants and options for remedial action
  • Routinely prepares and reviews reports for regulatory compliance
General Supervision and Management

Acts as a team lead within the department

Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and regulatory agencies as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the District Director of Facilities Engineering

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years' working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements; or an equivalent combination of education and working experience
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, chemistry, industrial hygiene, engineering, or related field
  • Master's degree
  • Fire Service background
  • Current Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Current Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, ANSI, ACGIH and related regulations and guidance
  • Skilled in written and electronic communication
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
  • Skilled using Office applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software
  • Ability to analyze, interpret codes, regulations, policies, and procedures; comprehend, interpret and apply Federal, State and local regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and waste; write and implement environmental compliance plans and programs
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands – The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must medically qualify to wear a respirator. Position requires frequent exposure to hazardous materials and waste.

Work Environment – The work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near chemicals, moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
