Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Success and Advising is responsible for leading staff and sustaining a student-ready culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, excellence, and integrity in student development, enrollment management, academic advising, and campus engagement. In collaboration with the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for student support services as well as promotes initiatives that enable the delivery of effective and quality service to students.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Performance Requirements*
- Assists and advises the Vice President of Student Affairs regarding students, personnel, or resource management concerns in a timely manner, while also being responsible for the strategic planning and operational management of offices and staff within the department
- Oversees the operation and delivery of student success programs and activities to include academic advising
- Provides interpretation, oversight, and guidance in implementing student support programs to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations
- Collaborates with academic support services, faculty, academic leadership, and campus leadership to develop strategies that demonstrate an inclusive and equitable learning community for all special populations to positively impact enrollment, retention, completion, and increase student satisfaction
- Establishes, monitors, and reports on measurable outcomes of student support activities and early and targeted interventions and remediation initiatives
- Coordinates efforts with Academic Affairs to monitor the utilization of academic support services and resources
- Manages departmental budgets and institutional effectiveness plans
- Serves on CARE Team, the college behavior intervention team
- Provides leadership in emergency and crisis situations, including communications to senior and executive level staff.
- Provides leadership and guidance in the analysis, creation, and interpretation of student policies and procedures; reviews and recommends policies and procedures in adherence with State and Federal law
- Evaluates emerging assistive technologies and trains and develops the team as appropriate
- Manages department budget, student learning assessment, advising, student success, and enrollment management activities; recommends staff appointment, professional development, and evaluation in adherence to college policy and procedures.
- Provides leadership, supervision, and evaluation for assigned administrative and professional-level direct reports; develops and implements training and training materials; provides guidance and support concerning personal and professional development
- Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
- Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
- Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, creativity, and service to the College
- Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Works under the general supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs

Required Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree
- Five (5) years' working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
- Three (3) years' experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others; leading projects or processes)
- Doctoral degree
- Experience in human relations
- Experience with retention programs at the college or university level
- Knowledge of theories of student development, student engagement, student success and career development
- Knowledge of current practices in student affairs and higher education to include proper methods and resources for compliance, disabilities covered under ADA, student disciplinary actions and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Knowledge of strategic enrollment management principles and best practices in student affairs
- Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with diverse populations
- Skilled in using computer applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
- Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
- Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
- Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
