Job Description:


Empire State is currently seeking an Assistant Professor of Data Science to join the Department of Computer Science and Technology (CS&T) in School of Science, Mathematics and Technology. The successful candidate will develop and teach online courses, independent studies, and study groups in their expertise area, and serve learners across New York State, nationally, and world-wide. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring (advising) students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines and guiding mentees as they pursue individualized degree programs. The selected incumbent will demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across the faculty role. Engagement in an active research agenda and ongoing service to the university are also expected. SUNY Empire supports faculty as they pursue scholarly work and engage in professional development activities that enhance their teaching and research skills.

The Assistant Professor of Data Science will collaborate with CS&T colleagues to develop a new academic program in Data Science. This program will prepare students for jobs in new and emerging fields and enable them to gain proficiency and hands-on competencies in areas including information computing; optimization; data analysis and management; applied mathematics and statistics; ethics; and critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Candidates with curriculum development or relevant industry experience are encouraged to apply.


Requirements:


Required Qualifications:
  • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S. university in Data Science, Business and Data Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. ABD considered.
  • College-level teaching experience in relevant content areas.
  • Pursuit of an active research agenda in their field.
  • Experience with supporting diverse populations.
  • Strong communication, technical, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult teaching and learning.
  • Experience with teaching in online learning environments.
  • Experience with curriculum development or relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to support and engage with external partnerships.
Special Information:
  • Occasional travel will be required to fulfill university-wide commitments.
  • Office hours will vary to accommodate student needs.
  • Some evening and/or weekend engagement with students is required.

Additional Information:


Rank/Salary: Tenure-track, Assistant Professor, 12-month appointment, $90,000.
