Lecturer of Music Education

The Penn State School of Music announces a full-time, term, renewable appointment in Music Education to begin August 1, 2024. The ideal candidate is an accomplished teacher-scholar with a collaborative mindset and a commitment to student-centered, inclusive music teaching and advising. An earned doctorate in music education is preferred; ABD will be considered. A minimum of 3 years full-time teaching in K-12 schools, or commensurate experience, is required. Current faculty and administration share an ethic of collegial responsibility and mutual care, so this new hire will receive solid mentoring, professional development, and support.

We are seeking a candidate with expertise in secondary general music, but priority will be given to candidates with an additional specialization in any of the following areas: critical theory, songwriting, music technology and recording, or contemporary musical genres and underrepresented musical cultures. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, supervise graduate student research and student teachers, and assist in undergraduate student advising with other teaching and service duties as assigned.
