Job Summary/Basic Function

The College of Basic and Applied Sciences at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for an innovative leader to chair (position#104005) the Department of Chemistry. Applicants must have an established publication record and external funding record appropriate for appointment at the associate or full professor rank. Expedited tenure upon appointment is possible. The start date for the position is August 1, 2024.

The Department of Chemistry is a large and diverse department with 33 faculty members and over 500 students. The department has a significant and growing research footprint, with more than $3M currently committed to external funding. The successful candidate will report directly to the Dean of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences and is expected to have a strong record in teaching, research, service, and administration or leadership at the department level. Primary responsibilities include strong departmental leadership and personnel management; stewardship of department resources; assessment and continual improvement of curriculum, pedagogy, and advising; attracting internal and external funding resources; supporting faculty research; recruiting quality students and faculty; mentorship of faculty members; student advising; development of sponsored research; peer-reviewed publications; and public service. The chair will have a reduced teaching load each semester.

Required Education

A terminal degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
