Position Summary:

The Security Officer II - Armed is responsible for the provision of armed security services for the Glenridge on Palmer Ranch (GPR) and includes monitoring buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry to ensure campus-wide safety and security. The Security Officer assists GPR Members in obtaining the security services and directs them to appropriate resources as a situation requires. The Security Officer works as a team participant along with the department staff to ensure that quality security and customer service standards and expectations are met.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responds to a variety of calls, aids in emergency and non-emergency situations. Investigates and documents (both electronically and written) safety hazards, incidents, medical calls, fire alarms and activities in accordance with established GPR policy and procedure.
  2. Patrols designated areas to ensure the protection of the Members, staff, and property of the Glenridge.
  3. Is accountable to the department’s chain of command for initiative, judgment and general competence exhibited in the performance of assignments, calls for service, and day-to-day general duties.
  4. Investigates suspicious activity or persons. Investigates and/or reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to Security Gate House and keeps Supervisor apprised of unusual activities and events.
  5. Responds to events of varying degrees of vulnerability, including high vulnerability such as life-threatening events and natural disasters.
  6. Participates in activities not directly related to Security operations as assigned such as nurse/patient escort, elevator recall checks, monthly fire extinguisher, pendant alarm, and intercom checks, special event setups, and other duties as assigned.
  7. Acknowledges and responds appropriately to emergency, non-emergency and alarm calls as assigned. Uses good judgment to safely determine the alarm cause, takes appropriate action and/or provides the proper assistance and direction in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Administers initial first aid as appropriate and to the level of training attained.
  8. Learns applicable systems and responds to emergency alarms at different buildings during actual alarms and drills in accordance with appropriate department and community policies and procedures.
  9. Assists individuals on property needing directions or information. Escorts people to desired destination when safety of property or individuals is a concern.
  10. Monitors vehicle and pedestrian traffic and parking policy. Interviews and investigates individuals involved in suspicious or illegal activities.
  11. Maintains department work records in compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  12. Assesses Member, staff and visitor needs and makes recommendations for developing and improving security services.
  13. Accomplishes assigned tasks within established timelines, understands obstacles and makes alternative plans to ensure timely task accomplishment.
  14. Demonstrates knowledge about equipment utilized for department services.
  15. Ensures working conditions are safe and safety rules are followed.
  16. Works closely with management and department staff in developing an integral team that effectively represents the quality and professionalism of GPR.
  17. Assists other staff members as needed.
  18. Attends in-service meetings to keep abreast of changes in health, safety regulations, employee policies and emergency procedures.
  19. Uses goodjudgment in determining needs of the company and in maintaining information delivery in conformance with recognized standards; and is expected to understand and follow all regulatory and facility policies.
  20. Keeps current on all changes in their area of responsibility, particularly regulatory changes as they relate to armed security and other applicable security and safety services as assigned.
  21. Uses goodjudgment in determining the needs of Members and working with the different departments and in maintaining delivery of those needs in accordance with recognized standards; and is expected to understand and follow all regulatory and facility policies.
  22. Maintains confidentiality of Members’ PHI (Protected Health Information) and medical records information as well.
  23. Other various duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Must have at least a High School diploma with law enforcement or military or technical college certificate in a criminal justice or related field.
  2. At least one (1) year of proven experience in a security, military, or law enforcement required.
  3. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  4. Must possess a valid Class “D” Florida Security License.
  5. Must possess a valid Class “G” Florida Firearms License.
  6. CPR, AED and First Aid Certified. Other medical training as determined by the Director of Life Safety.
  7. Proficiency in understanding of computer software as it relates to the job.
  8. Excellent decision-making and analytical skills.
  9. Excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills.
  10. Must be empathetic, enthusiastic and have an affinity for working with a diverse senior population.
  11. Must be well organized and can work with limited direction, take initiative, and can plan and carry out responsibilities, organizing own schedule and duties to complete responsibilities.
