Sports Reporter
The Register-Guard/registerguard.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is looking for an experienced sports reporter to cover the University of Oregon, primarily Ducks football program.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced journalist to tackle one of the most successful, interesting and well-funded college athletics programs in the country.
The University of Oregon produces nationally ranked teams in ‘major’ sports such as football, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, softball and baseball, not to mention its status as one of the pre-eminent track and field programs.
The football team has won the Pac-12 Conference title the past two of three years and consistently has a Top 10 recruiting class. The team is at an exciting juncture as it heads into its 2022-23 season with a lot of buzz, a new coach and new strategies on the field.
Covering the Ducks requires a reporter who’s comfortable writing about a variety of sports in a digital-first environment, which includes competition from statewide media, national media and sites devoted to recruiting and all things Ducks, to grow our digital subscribers.
The ideal candidate is comfortable and experienced using social media to engage and build a following with the dedicated Ducks fans, enhance reporting and promote stories. They also are adept at creating video and curating newsletters to enhance their coverage.
Located in the Willamette Valley, Eugene is about an hour from the beautiful, rugged Oregon Coast. Head north on Interstate 5 to reach Salem, the state capital, in under an hour, or Portland in two hours.

Eugene, a robust and vibrant college town, is known as TrackTown USA for its outdoors-minded community with miles of urban forested trails for hiking and running.
As a culinary destination, Eugene offers an abundance of locally grown, raised and produced food and beverage products. Together with neighboring Springfield, the city of Eugene provides a quality of life affirmed and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
