Editor, Sports Betting Partnerships
USA TODAY Sports is seeking a dynamic and transformational leader to serve as its editor for a new sports betting content initiative.
The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of sports and sports betting. This person will be a strong leader who can articulate a strategic vision for a new partnership that will reach across several content groups.
You will help us set audience engagement priorities and exhibit a daily passion for growing the audience. This person will help ensure the partnership content meets our editorial standards.
The ideal candidate will collaborate deeply across the USA TODAY NETWORK and with USA TODAY Sports editors to implement a content strategy that helps us quickly build audience across our largest sports properties.
This person will have the skills to both ensure high quality journalism and the initiative to launch a new content project.
The right candidate will have a proven track record of high-impact content editing and the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate across a large team.
We are looking for someone with expertise in the sports betting space who can use data to drive engagement and traffic.
Job Level: Editor III
Minimum Salary: $75,000
Responsibilities:
- Uphold the highest journalism standards across all platforms.
- Plan across the USA TODAY Network to help us launch a new partnership that allows us to share betting content across network sites.
- Develop and lead a content strategy that allows us to quickly build up to scale across our largest properties.
- Solve for workflow and structure challenges, working with stakeholders across several departments.
- Work with USA TODAY and network editors to promote sports betting content as part of our daily coverage plans with an emphasis on tent-pole events.
- Ensure content has been appropriately edited for accuracy, clarity and conciseness while meeting the standards for our brand.
- Look for ways to promote our betting content in the social media space.
- Serve as our key point person to drive engagement and build audience.
- Strong communicator of the company’s strategic initiatives, purpose, vision, culture and plan.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience as a respected journalism leader, with emphasis on digital content and storytelling platforms.
- A history of successful leadership, innovation and goal achievement.
- Demonstrated change leader who collaborates and communicates effectively.
- Deep knowledge of the sports betting content space.
- Understanding of the changing media landscape and ability to adapt strategies that address continually changing market and consumer needs and desires.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and coordinate in an environment of accountability.
- Ability to work not only independently but also as a key contributor to team/network projects.
- Strong understanding of audience analytics and how to use them to drive content decisions.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices.
- Commitment to diversity in reflecting the communities we cover.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $75,000 and $120,750. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
