Summary Position
Elon Departments of Biology and Environmental Studies are searching for a laboratory manager with strong organization and communication skills. The successful candidate will oversee activities related to laboratory courses, research and safety. They will also have a broad interest in science, as they will support departments' faculty research and laboratory courses that cover a broad range of scientific topics from field to molecular biology.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Supporting faculty research and laboratory courses by ordering supplies and maintaining spaces and equipment.
2. Managerial support through budgeting, purchasing, hiring and training student laboratory assistants.
3. Maintaining chemical inventory, safe storage and disposal of hazardous material and safety training for faculty and students.

Special Skills or Experience
The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to work with and mentor undergraduate students, as well as previous training in laboratory safety. The position also includes serving on the university-wide health safety and environmental management committee and developing, managing, and implementing department-wide safety related policies. A positive attitude, a willingness to accept new challenges, and flexibility with daily tasks is required. Strong interpersonal and writing skills are essential, as this role requires collaboration and coordination with many different faculty members within the Biology and Environmental Studies departments, other faculty and staff across campus, and other lab managers from difference science departments.

General Purpose of Position
Elon is seeking a science lab manager with strong organizational and interpersonal skills to support laboratory courses and faculty research, train and supervise undergraduate laboratory assistants, and manage supplies and equipment purchasing for the Biology and Environmental Studies departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide support to laboratory courses and faculty research endeavors. Flexibility is key to handle the challenges of two dynamic and growing departments. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Hiring, training, and supervising undergraduate teaching assistants.
* Managerial duties such as budget oversight, purchasing coordination, and safety training.
* Maintaining departmental chemical inventories and coordinating the safe disposal of hazardous materials.
* Assisting in the growth and development of both departments by providing insight and suggestions during lab renovations and building updates.
* Knowledge of appropriate computer software and ability to learn technical skills is necessary for the maintenance of research equipment, materials, and specimens.
* Attend the University Safety Committee meetings, be familiar with OSHA regulations, and serve on the University IACUC.
Education and Experience
