Looking for a Lead Foodscaper / Foreman

We are seeking a lead foodscaper / foreman to join our team and oversee the construction and maintenance of permaculture garden builds for the 2024 season. The lead foodscaper will be responsible for managing project execution, coordinating a crew of 2 to 3 workers, and ensuring that all work is complete to the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.

The ideal candidate has experience in new landscape construction with a desire to learn permaculture and edible landscaping. Experience in building patios and retaining walls is preferred. The candidate should be able to lead projects, work on a team, engage with customers, remain flexible and solve problems.

This is a season role starting in April and ending in mid-November. The position offers and estimated 35 to 45 hours per week. Opportunity for overtime pay (over 40 hours per week) may be available for larger projects.

The majority of projects are within the twin cities metro; however, we may have a few projects outside of the twin cities metro which would require a couple overnights. Room nights, per diem, and additional travel stipend will be available for these projects.

Requirements:

  • Lead and supervise a small crew of foodscapes, laborers, and subcontractors in the construction and maintenance of permaculture gardens.
  • Plan and coordinate daily work activities, including excavation of old landscaping, site preparation, measurements, digging swales to capture rainwater, sheet mulching, planting, soil preparation, mulching, seeding, installing trellises, drip irrigation, hardscaping, and building greenhouses
  • Interpret landscape design plants and ensure that projects are executed according to specifications and timelines
  • Implement permaculture techniques and practices such as companion planting, water harvesting, soil conversation, and integrated pest management
  • Manage project budgets, materials and equipment to ensure efficient use of resources
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues or challenges, and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Collaborate closely with clients, landscape designers, and project managers to ensure client satisfaction and project sucess
  • Maintain a safe environment and adhere to all safety and regulations and company policies
