The Curatorial Fellow, Postwar and Contemporary Glass ("Curatorial Fellow") is a donor-funded,
full-time, three-year term onsite position, reporting to the Curator of Postwar and
Contemporary Glass.


The Curatorial Fellow supports the vision and strategic direction for the Museum's Postwar and
Contemporary glass collection, working in all areas of responsibility including acquisitions,
exhibitions, cataloging, and research of The Corning Museum of Glass' collection of Postwar
and Contemporary Glass. The Fellow supports a 2026 exhibition of American Studio Glass,
collaborates with staff from departments across the Museum, including the Rakow Research
Library, Collections Management, Education and Interpretation, Publications, Marketing and
Communications, Digital Media, Advancement, and other departments as needed. This
curatorial position provides editorial support of New Glass Review, published annually, and
collaborates with the Curator of Postwar and Contemporary Glass on the Rakow Commission,
awarded annually to a rising contemporary glass artist.

Curatorial Support in Postwar and Contemporary Glass

  • Researches and coordinates information for exhibitions, publications, and interpretive
    projects.
  • Develops and maintains exhibition checklists.
  • Serves as an active member of the exhibition planning teams including core, logistics, and
    interpretation.
  • Writes and facilitates production of exhibition and gallery labels.
  • Assists the Curator of Postwar and Contemporary glass in the development of acquisition
    proposals, leading to solo preparation.
  • Supports annual publication of New Glass Review, leading to serving as Guest Editor.
  • Acts as liaison between the curatorial and registration departments.
  • Updates data into the collections management system regarding objects in the collection.
  • Works with the Curator of Postwar and Contemporary Glass to answer questions from the
    public about the collection.
  • Contributes to surveys or inventories of the Postwar and Contemporary glass collections.
  • Provides tours of the collection as requested.
  • Develops relationships with glass collectors for donor cultivation to the collections.


Collaboration and Coordination

  • Supplies information about the collection to other departments as requested.
  • With the Collections Management department, facilitates visits from scholars and collectors
    who wish to examine the collection.
  • Works with the Registrar's staff as requested to organize glass in the offsite storage facility.
  • Assists with public programs related to the collections as requested.

General

  • Actively and intentionally supports CMoG's commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility,

  • Actively participates in Curatorial team meetings and serves on Museum teams, as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's Degree preferred with equivalent work experience considered, preferably with an
    emphasis on material culture or decorative arts.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience at a comparable level; experience working in a museum
    desired.
  • Knowledge of glass desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office, Teams and SharePoint software products;
    knowledge of collections management software or the ability to learn it.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a
stationary position, operate/use equipment, communicate, and detect/distinguish. The employee is occasionally required to move about and ascend/descend. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, and the ability to distinguish
color and adjust focus.


The employee is occasionally required to move/transport up to 10 pounds.


The work environment is usually indoors and climate controlled. The noise level in the work
environment is usually quiet.

SALARY RANGE


$68,000 - $72,000
