Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Starting Wage: $22.0399 Hourly / $45,842.99 Annually
**Temporary, full-time employee shall mean any person hired to work a regular workweek for a period not to exceed 365 consecutive days.**
Characteristics of the Job
Under general supervision, responsible for routine operation of treatment processes and process equipment and maintenance of building and grounds; routinely fills in for other positions within the division. Exercises some independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
- Operate plant processes and equipment.
- Clean and maintain treatment units, related equipment and grounds.
- Perform plant laboratory testing.
- Operate filters and perform related testing and record keeping.
- Collect and record plant data using various forms and computer programs.
- Assist in maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and equipment.
- Operate riding mower, power mower, edge trimmer or weed whip for lawn maintenance; water, fertilize, cultivate and trim lawns, shrubs, flowers and trees.
- Lead crews of temporary or seasonal workers.
- Collect wastewater samples.
- Assume duties of the laboratory technician and truck driver as required.
Required Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent; must obtain an Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or equivalent within 45 days of hire; one year of experience in wastewater treatment plant; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess knowledge of basic laboratory procedures as it applies to wastewater treatment; knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in a variety of mechanical maintenance and repair activities; knowledge of the appropriate chemical, biological and bacteriological processes involved in the treatment of wastewater; knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions and devices applicable to treatment plant and pump station operations and maintenance work; some knowledge of computer usage.
Skill in preparing reports; skill in operating a personal computer with spreadsheet programs.
Ability to read and understand technical literature pertaining to treatment processes, procedures and new techniques; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and the general public; ability to work under varied weather conditions; and the ability to perform physical activities constantly at a medium heavy demand level.
